Night Optics sent a Panther 336 to the production team over at CBS TV Studios Hawaii for filming on an episode of Hawaii Five-0. The episode aired on May 6, 2016. While it appears only for a breif time, it was during a pivotal scene in the final act.
Spoiler Alert:Five-0 Police detectives use thermal imaging to determine the number of armed bad guys inside the house where a young girl is being held hostage. They time it perfectly so that all 3 detectives take out the 3 bad guys all at once. The scene concludes with the ring leader holding the little girl at gunpoint while Five-0 detectives set up another shot to take him out as well.

We took the new Explorer 320 up to the Top of the World in San Clemente, California on July 4th 2014 to watch the Fireworks display at the San Clemente Pier nearly 1000 feet below and 2.6mi away. We draw a comparison between what is seen with the naked eye and what the thermal imager sees. We were impressed that fireworks displays could be seen through the imager as far as 6 miles north on the water in Dana Point, CA.
The short video clip features footage from a Canon 5D Mark II DSLR Camera and Explorer 320 Thermal camera. Both systems were securely mounted to high quality Bushnell titanium tripods. The footage from the Explorer 320 was captured using the Video-out feature to a personal DVR.
On November 3rd 2013 the E! Entertainment TV show “Keeping Up With The Kardashian’s” featured Night Optics products as part of their “Area 51” episode. The premise of the episode surrounds members of the family on their travels to Area 51 in search of extraterrestrial life after one of them thought they had seen a UFO. The opening sequence shows members of the family unboxing a Night Optics USA labeled travel case filled with our high-end tactical night vision systems. They proceeded to play with the devices in darkened rooms of their home before later using them at a camp sight near Area 51. Though playful and silly at times, there was plenty of filming through the product and the overall subject matter points to a growing sub-culture of people who believe that we are not alone in the universe and take to the night sky’s with night vision in-hand to catch a glimpse of any potential visitors from places far far away.
We’d like to offer a special thanks to Ben Hansen of Night Vision Ops and SyFy’s Fact or Faked for connecting us with the producers of the show. We also want to thank the Producers of the show for all of the excellent placement during the program.
